Moroccan Shrimp

This dish may not look like much, but looks can be deceiving.  It made a scrumptious, though rather plain, meal.

I'm not sure if it is authentic Moroccan cuisine or not.  Moroccan cuisine has been influenced by Mediterranean, Arabic, Andalusian, and Berber flavors.  I'm not sure who the Berbers are, but they are from North Africa.

Garlic Ginger Shrimp Stir Fry

Yesterday I went to a park in DC and listened to a free outdoor concert.  There are so many wonderful summer events in DC.  This summer has been so busy that I haven't been able to enjoy all that the area has to offer.

I went to a few free concerts last year, but the one I went to yesterday was my favorite.  In the past, the venues have been so full.  It was hard to find a spot to sit.

Clam Chowder

In the beginning of July, I spent a few days in San Francisco.  While there, I ate clam chowder a couple of times at a very popular restaurant at Fisherman's Wharf.  It was packed to the brim with tourists.  The soup was served in a hearty, sourdough bread bowl.

The soup was good.  When I got back, I decided to make my own clam chowder.  It was the first meal I made while getting back into the grove of things.

Thai Shrimp Green Curry

A memorable event occurred yesterday.  I saw the daughter of a well known politician purchasing food at a swanky deli.  I wouldn't have noticed, but the employee helping me at a nearby counter mouthed the words to me.

He had to repeat this charade a few times before I understood.  I don't read lips well.  I wouldn't have noticed if the employee hadn't pointed it out to me.  Her back was towards me, and her security personnel were casually dressed.

Shrimp Pad See Ew

A couple of sushi burrito places have opened up in my area, and I can't seem to get enough of them.  In the last month, I have eaten three sushi burritos.  They are really yummy.

It's such a fun idea.  Asian and Mexican fusion foods seem to be big.  Korean tacos took off and now sushi burritos.  Some people have very clever food ideas.

Honey Mustard Glazed Salmon Fillets

I debating posting this recipe, and not because it wasn't delicious.  It looks a little weird.  I don't think placing the food on a green plate helped.  Green isn't an appetizing color.

Salmon isn't a particularly attractive cut of meat either.  The main problem is white film formed on the salmon while it baked.  It didn't affect the flavor, but it isn't appealing.

Scallops and Chorizo

I'm posting this recipe from Belize!  I wrote the post the week before coming, so I can't really say how the trip is going.  I'm sure I'm having a wonderful time.

This is another recipe from Nigella Express.  I have already posted a macaroni and cheese recipe and a curry meatball recipe.   The curry meatball recipe may sound questionable, but it was really delicious.  Over a year ago I posted chocolate cookies from Nigella Express.  It is one of my favorite cookie recipes.

Salmon Thai Red Curry

I went to Antietam Battlefield yesterday to see the fields illuminated with 23,000 candles for every soldier who was wounded, killed or went missing during the battle.  They do it every year in December for just one night.

The battle occurred in September so I'm not sure why the illumination is done in December.  Despite the high number of casualties, the entire battle lasted only 12 hours.  After this battle, President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.

Smoked Salmon and Egg Sandwich

I went to Iceland a few weeks ago.  I ate lamb, black licorice, a rhubarb cake, and a couple of smoked salmon sandwich with thinly sliced eggs.  I ate the first sandwich for lunch and enjoyed it so much that I ate another for dinner.

What do you know about Iceland?  A friend who traveled with me said the entire country only has a little over 300,000 people.  The language, Icelandic, is derived from old Norse.  Everyone I encountered spoke perfect English.  It was impressive.

Shrimp Red Curry

Thai red curry is red because of dry red spur chiles.  The paste is traditionally made with a mortar and pestle.  I didn't make my red curry paste.  I bought it at the supermarket.

If I had made it myself, it would have required things like galangal, lemongrass, shrimp paste, kaffir lime leaves, and coriander root.  Buying curry paste is a little easier than finding these exotic ingredients at the local grocery store.

Goan Shrimp Curry

I went to a delicious Indian and Himalayan restaurant a couple of weeks ago with a friend.  Their Goan fish curry caught my eye.

I ended up ordering something else, but the next day I searched for a Goan curry and found this recipe.

Shrimp Panang Curry

I wonder who first decided to eat some types of foods.  Shrimp is an example of one of these foods.  Did someone find a shrimp in the ocean and just pop it into their mouth?

Whoever he was, he was probably hungry and would have put anything into his mouth to fill his stomach.

I did not like shrimp as a kid.  I liked the taste, but the idea of putting an entire shrimp body into my mouth kind of freaked me out.

Shrimp with Spicy Garlic Sauce

Happy Easter!  Nothing says Easter like Chinese food, right?  It isn't any weirder to eat Chinese food at Easter than to have a giant bunny hide chicken eggs.

This morning I woke up at 6am to go to an early morning Easter service at the National Cathedral.  The service started at 8, but the metro doesn't start working on the weekends until 7:10 or 7:15.  I ended up walking.

This was in addition to my own church service at 11am.  I am exhausted and have attended a little too much church for one day.  I'm probably going to fall asleep today around 9 and not wake up until the morning.

Crab Ceviche

Today felt like spring.  I went swimming for the first time since last fall, and my muscles feel a little tired.  The cherry blossom trees in Washington DC are in bloom.  I haven't seen them yet, but like a million other people, I'll probably go tomorrow.

Ceviche is eaten throughout Central and South America.  It is supposed to be made with raw seafood cured in lemon or lime juice.  Wikipedia says it originated in Peru.

Wikipedia also said ceviche is traditionally eaten with sweet potato, lettuce, corn, avocado or plantain.  I did not.  I ate it with lentil chips.  They weird, but I enjoyed them.  They were much healthier than tortilla chips.

Marinated Sweet and Sour Fish

I got this recipe from a Middle Eastern recipe book in the library. I made copies of several recipes that interested me.

Unfortunately, I didn’t write down the name of the book. I need to search out its name on the internet, because it had great recipes and beautiful pictures.

I plan on making another recipe from the cookbook in the coming week that involved butternut squash and Tahiti.

I wanted to make this recipe exactly directed, but Trader Joe’s isn’t the best source for spices. They didn’t even have bay leaves. Isn’t that surprising? They had turmeric and saffron, but no bay leaves. I’m sure if you use bay leaves and coriander seeds, this recipe is even more amazing.
