Sweet and Sour Pork

Today was a killer at work.  I felt like I didn't have time to even go to the bathroom.  I had to shovel my lunch down my throat during a twenty minute break.

I don't work on President's Day, and I am really looking forward to the break.  I'm not going out off town, so I think it is going to be a low key and relaxing weekend.  My biggest plans so far are to go see a movie.

Pozole

Next week is Valentine's Day.  I don't have a significant other or any exciting plans, but Valentine's Day is a perfect excuse for me to buy myself a little chocolate.  I bought myself a couple of bars of fancy chocolate last night in preparation for the upcoming holiday.

There is a store in DC called Chocolate Chocolate.  I bet you can guess what they sell.  They sell the most interesting chocolate.  They sell beautiful pieces of chocolate by the pound.  They have sophisticated flavors like honey lavender and rosemary caramel, and each flavor has a unique and colorful design.

Carnitas

Last week I was in San Diego for a conference.  It is a beautiful town, and I enjoyed myself thoroughly.  I ate Mexican food every day.  A former classmate suggested I try a restaurant that happened to be a couple of blocks from my hotel.

There was a long line of customers waiting.  They had a simple menu: tacos, tamales, and rolled tacos.  Everything was greasy and delicious.  I ordered a tamale filled with carnitas, among other things.  The meat was tender and flavorful.

Sausage Casserole

I experienced something new today: I was robbed.  I was less than a block from my office when it happened.  Luckily, only my wallet was taken.  I still have my phone, apartment key, and work ID.

I only had $10 in my wallet, but the culprit was able to spend some money at the liquor store with my credit card.  My bank is going to cover the fraudulent charges, which is wonderful.  I have had a string of good customer service experiences recently.

Glazed Ham

Earlier this week, the electricity in my power went out.  It was off for almost twenty-four hours.  It would not have been a problem, but it was also below freezing.

That night I went to bed wearing multiple layers.  I was also inside my sleeping bag under my covers.  I am grateful I own a sleeping bag.
