Garlic Ginger Shrimp Stir Fry


Yesterday I went to a park in DC and listened to a free outdoor concert.  There are so many wonderful summer events in DC.  This summer has been so busy that I haven't been able to enjoy all that the area has to offer.



I went to a few free concerts last year, but the one I went to yesterday was my favorite.  In the past, the venues have been so full.  It was hard to find a spot to sit. 


Some of the venues are concrete jungles so there isn't a nice place to sit.  The place yesterday was at a grass park.  There was even a water feature for the kids to play in.  It wasn't overly crowded either.


After the concert my friends and I had ice cream at a quaint ice cream store that had unique flavors like blueberry pie, honey lavender, and caramel popcorn.  I have eaten loads of ice cream this summer.  I count that as a success.


I found this garlic ginger shrimp recipe at another blog called Steamy Kitchen.  I doubled the recipe but made it exactly as directed otherwise.


The ingredients are 4 tablespoons oyster sauce, 2 tablespoon soy sauce, a couple of handfuls of fresh cilantro, 4 teaspoons cornstarch, 1 pound peeled and deveined shrimp, 2 tablespoons cooking oil, 10 stalks green onion, 4 garlic cloves, and 4 teaspoons fresh ginger.


I combined the oyster sauce, soy sauce, and cilantro.




I dried the shrimp with a paper towel and then coated it with the corn starch.


In batches, I cooked a forth of the shrimp in a bit of the oil.  The pan was hot when I added the shrimp.   I browned each side of the shrimp for a minute.  I removed the shrimp from the pan after two minutes.  They were not fully cooked at this point.


I added the remaining oil to the skillet.  I added the chopped green onions, minced garlic, and minced ginger.



I cooked and stirred the automatics over medium heat for a few minutes.


I added the sauce and partially cooked shrimp.


I stirred and cooked this for a few minutes until everything was warm and the shrimp were fully cooked.


 This dish was good.  It was briny and flavorful.  I'm glad I didn't add any salt because it was salty enough.


The shrimp were perfectly cooked.  They weren't rubbery or chewy.


 The herbs were fresh and fragrant.


This dish was tasty, but it wasn't as delicious as I had hoped.  It was worth making once, but I will probably not make it again.

This sounds great--I love shrimp dishes because they come together so quickly! Kind of a bummer that it didn't wow you, though. Still, it's always fun to try new recipes at least once!
