Chocolate Pancakes with Mini Peanut Butter Cups

I'm writing this from San Francisco.  It is my first time visiting this city.  I was in San Diego for a work trip, and decided to take a short weekend trip to see San Francisco.

Even though I had never been here before, it sounded like a city I would enjoy living in.  I still think that's true, but some aspects of the city are different than what I anticipated.  It's a bigger city than I anticipated.
I enjoy the city's architecture and color palate.  I also like the cooler weather.  I had been warned of the cooler temperature, but I was still caught a little off guard.  I bought a thin jacket yesterday.

A friend from DC moved to San Francisco a year ago, and she did a wonderful job showing me around the city yesterday.

I wanted to go visit Alcatraz, but the tickets are sold out until August 10th.  I didn't not plan my trip that far in advance.  When you make spur of the moment trips, you don't get to do the activities that require reservations.

I made these pancakes before leaving for California.  They were delicious.

I have used this chocolate pancake recipe from food.com many times.  It is one of my favorite pancake recipes.  I added some mini peanut butter cups to make it a little decadent.

The ingredients are 1 cup milk, 1 egg, 2 tablespoons melted butter, 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1/3 cup cocoa powder, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 cup mini peanut butter cups.

To make the pancakes, I combined the milk, melted butter, and egg.

In another bowl, I combined the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt.

I whisked the dry and wet ingredients.

I poured the wet ingredients into the flour mixture and whisked until combined.

I stirred in the mini peanut butter cups.

I greased a skillet and put it over medium high heat.  I added a third of a cup of batter to the warm pan for each pancake.  I flipped the pancakes once the edges looked dry and bubbles started forming in the center of the pancake.  I cooked the reserve side for a few minutes.

These were fantastic pancakes.   I ate them topped with greek yogurt.

Topping them with chocolate sauce, peanut butter, and bananas would have been even more fantastic.

Every time I have made this recipe, the pancake texture has been tender and fluffy.

The chocolate flavor is rich, deep, and decadent.

The made a very indulgent breakfast.

The peanut butter cups became melted, creamy, and gooey.

These made a pleasurable and delightful breakfast.

These DO look really decadent, and there's nothing wrong with that. Starting out the day with chocolate sounds perfect to me! 😀
