A couple of years ago I visited my brother and sister in-law in Illinois. While I was there, we ate chocolate oatmeal made with hot chocolate. It was ingenious.
This version is similar to what I ate two years ago, but I added half a candy cane to make it peppermint flavored.
This is my last Christmas themed recipe of the season. It went by so fast, and I'm a little sad to see it go.
I had a wonderful Christmas. I saw many family members and feel refreshed and grateful.
This oatmeal has a short list of ingredients. They are 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1 cup water, 1 packet hot chocolate mix, salt, and half a candy cane.
I added the oatmeal, salt, and water to a pan over medium heat.
I added the hot chocolate and candy cane.
I cooked it for a few minutes until the oatmeal was thick.
This is simple but hearty and delicious.
The hot chocolate and peppermint make the oatmeal a special and festive, but it is still healthy.
It is a fun way to eat oatmeal. I also like to add peanut butter with the hot chocolate mix. I think coconut flakes would be a great addition too.
